How to Get Better Blog Ranking Tip #3
When you begin a blog, one of the things you should encourage is readers comments. Readers are the lifeblood of your blog, and contribute directly to your Blog Ranking. Once again, no one wants to write a blog to an audience of one! However, once you have a readership that is participating by way of commentary, you will begin to notice a lot of 'junk', or "spam" comments. That's because there are a lot of people out there using unsavory techniques to generate traffic to their own blogs and websites, and one of the ways to do that is by backlinks, which we will get into later on. Basically, what they do is send a comment to your blog containing 15-30 links as a comment. What that does is give them links leading to the sites they own or want to promote, in an attempt to boost their own blog ratings. Quite often they will use links like: "nude pictures of- (celebrity)" or some other equally obnoxious phrase that has nothing at all to do with the site the link leads to. At this point, you may be experiencing an "Aha!" sensation, thinking "I could boost my own blog rankings this way!" But let me warn you, the tactic I have just described will only work in the VERY short term. It attracts a lot of visitors only until the owners of the blogs you have been spamming catch on to your tactics and delete your comments. Personally I consider those who use such tactics as 'flash-in-the-pan' marketers, who will not be on the scene very long. Karma, or the law of 'Actions have Consequences' will always catch up to them! Getting traffic, and higher blog rankings can be an ardorous path sometimes, but doing it wrong will only make it harder and longer! If you are using a WordPress blog such as this one, you have the option of denying spam comments without having to moderate each one individually. One of the great things about having a WordPress blog is the option to have spam comments automatically redirected into a 'spam' folder you can delete at your leisure! This way you can concentrate on building your blog ranking, instead of moderating comments. This is significant, as good blog rankings do take some time to achieve. WordPress has a plugin called 'Akismet' that does a VERY good job of catching spam comments. It simply redirects all comments with links into a folder called 'Akismet spam' where you can delete them when you have time. (check your WordPress menu for the option) BONUS TIP: If you are hosting a WordPress blog on your own server, or hosting account using cPanel, you also have the option of denying certain IP addresses. Simply look at the IP addresses in your Akismet spam comments folder and notice if a majority of them are from a single source. In my experience they usually are. Note the IP address, and access your cPanel. Look for the icon called: 'IP deny manager'. Simply enter the IP address and hit 'deny'. Presto! Spam comments from the offender disappear, and you can get on with your blogging! |
